BETTER LATE THAN NEVER

By Karen | Jul 02 2008

It’s been another one of those days. So I’m getting this up a bit late. And it’s going to be brief because my day is still not done.

Here’s how my Mickey bathroom turned out……

Sorry this one is a little dark. No matter what I did I couldn’t get it lighter.

It was a pretty cheapo overhaul. The most expensive part was having Little Joe (my neighbor/contractor) strip the wallpaper and paint. Otherwise it was close to nothing. The Ikea rug was $10. The Ikea shower curtain was $3.99. The Ikea shower curtain liner was $1.79. The Ikea shower curtain rings were $0.99. Are we seeing a trend here?

The Mickey parts bath towels, hand towels, and washcloths were free. They were gifts to the kids many moons ago, but you know–kids and white towels just don’t mix. The curtains…..well, we covered that topic here. And the Mickey ears on the back of the toilet were free (well, they were given to us on a cruise, so technically it’d have been cheaper NOT to get them!)

I’ve also got Pal Mickey in there and a Minnie Mouse alarm clock–both of which were collected from around the house.

So there you have it. Now, it’s back to work for me.

TACKLE IT TUESDAY–MY CREATIVE SIDE

By Karen | Jul 01 2008

Tackle It Tuesday Meme

Well, here I am, another week later. I hesitate telling you everything I’ve tackled in the last week because I’m sure I’ll get a ton of comments requesting I come over and help you. And I really would love to, but……..I’m busy that day.

So I’ll skip the long list. Instead I’ll show you something creative I did. Our main bathroom is being stripped of its 1970’s wallpaper and painted. I picked up a few things at Ikea to accessorize the new color, and because of the re-do the kids will finally be allowed to use their white Mickey Mouse towels. Who buys white towels for kids??? I digress.

Back on topic here…..I had just regular-smegular ol’ curtains in there and I didn’t want to splurge on anything expensive. Out of the deep dark recesses of my brain came an idea. And it was actually a good idea.

Here’s what I started with…..

Img 3869

And yeah, that was after I ironed them! I’m not so good with an iron, as you can tell!

Then I took some fabric paint I found in my massive decluttering and, using a Home Depot Mickey head paint chip as a guide, I painted red, black, and yellow Mickeys.

Img 3871

I just put them willy-nilly because I’m not a planner when it comes to these things. I decided to keep them to the bottom half of the curtain though because I was afraid it would get too pleated near the top and the effect would be lost.

So what was the effect?

Img 3872

A little hard to see with the sun streaming in. They aren’t perfect, but they’ll do. I really like the way they turned out. And it was SO easy!

I won’t be around today. The family is holding me hostage at Cedar Point. I’m going against my will. If they think I’m riding any of the huge rides, they are crazy!

COMING SOON TO AUSTRALIA…

By Karen | Jun 30 2008

…..one Mickey Mouse reusable shopping tote!

Yup, that’s right, I have a winner in my latest contest. I got a whopping four entries for this one. I think the requirement that you have to live somewhere other than the US narrowed down my field of candidates. Apparently I don’t have international flair. And just because someone (KT) ran a comment through an internet translator does not make her Spanish. Or Mexican. But it was a valiant try.

Anyway, I got two entries from Canada. Eh. And two from Australia. G’day, Mate.

So I listed them off as 1, 2, 3, and 4 and ran those numbers through Random.org’s sequence generator.

And the winner is…….

…..Tiff! From Australia.

How appropriate is it that her one place in the US to visit would be Disneyland?

Congratulations, Tiff!!! And I’ll get that bag and those wipes out to you as soon as I can!

Now pardon me while I go hack up my right lung. Dang summer colds.

SATURDAY PHOTO HUNT–BRIGHT

By Karen | Jun 28 2008

This week’s theme is “Bright.” When I learned this would be the theme, I knew exactly which picture I was going to use.

This was taken on our last Disney cruise. We boarded the ship right around noon and went straight up to the pool deck to grab some lunch, soak in the Florida sunshine, and chat with our good friends Mark and Mary. Things were going well until the sun moved in the sky just a bit (remember, we weren’t moving at this time) and it reflected off of the stainless steel condiment table by the hamburger stand. All of a sudden I was blinded by the light. (I know you’re all humming the song right now.) Here’s what it looked like…..

Ten minutes later the sun had moved enough in the sky that it was no longer an issue.

THROWBACK THURSDAY–MY FIRST ATTEMPT

By Karen | Jun 26 2008

There is a little thing in bloggyland called Throwback Thursday. I’ve never done it before because I’ve had content in my head suitable for a post.

But today, that content is gone. I’m up to my gills in stuff to do. And I’m sick to top it off. Mike or KT gave me some cold bug and the cough and crap feeling are lingering. But yet I still have to do stuff around the house. Ick.

Anyway, back to Throwback Thursday. It’s a group participation type of post started by Sharon, Audrey, and Jane over at Pinks & Blues Girls in which you post old pictures of yourself.

I’ve never participated before because that would require finding pictures, scanning them, and then posting them. As luck would have it, I came across some old pictures as I was cleaning and organizing, so I’m sharing them with you. But not all at once or what will I have left to show you next time my brain is empty on a Thursday?

Here I am in 2nd grade making my First Communion. Ya wouldn’t catch me in a dress that short now. In fact, I don’t even think I wear shorts that short now!

What I notice the most is the hideously patterned cushions on the deck furniture. And the lack of a railing on the deck itself. Those of you who have been to my parent’s house know that their deck is, oh, about 15 feet above the ground concrete patio. I’m sure that there was a First Communion party that day. And that the deck was packed with relatives. Relatives who might just have had a little bit too much communion wine beer.
